WMACCESS Open-Source Support Initiative 2025

At the end of 2025, the WMACCESS team at CPB Software (Germany) GmbH looks back on a busy year. Despite many ongoing tasks, we continued to support open-source projects.

We intend to keep this commitment moving forward.

Table of Contents

Caddy

We continued our sponsorship of the Caddy project throughout 2025. Our support reflects the value Caddy provides in our infrastructure and our appreciation for the work of its community and maintainers. Its reliability and clear documentation remain important elements in our daily operations.

Steffen Busch - WMACCESS Product Manager:

In 2025, I started working on Caddy plugin development in my free time, including the caddy-bot-barrier plugin, which we use at WMACCESS as a replacement for Google reCAPTCHA. Exploring Caddy’s internals and extending its functionality has been an enjoyable way to support a project that plays a key role in our environment.

Fail2Ban

We are pleased to support Fail2Ban, a proven intrusion-prevention framework that we actively use as part of the WMACCESS infrastructure. Fail2Ban analyses service log files and applies targeted countermeasures against abusive access patterns, helping us reduce unwanted traffic and protect externally reachable services.

At WMACCESS, Fail2Ban is an important operational safeguard that complements firewall rules and application-level security measures. Its transparency, configurability, and long-term stability make it a reliable component in our day-to-day operations. By sponsoring Fail2Ban, we want to acknowledge the continuous maintenance work required to keep such a widely deployed security tool dependable.

IT-Tools

We proudly support IT-Tools, a carefully curated collection of practical tools for developers, system administrators, and engineers, created and maintained by Corentin Thomasset. IT-Tools provides fast, browser-based utilities for common tasks such as encoding, formatting, data conversion, and text manipulation - without tracking and with a strong focus on self-hosting.

One tool we use particularly often is the List converter, which is extremely helpful for transforming structured input from spreadsheets into technical formats used in daily work.

Steffen Busch - WMACCESS Product Manager:

At WMACCESS, we regularly use the List converter to transform ISIN lists copied from Excel into SQL WHERE clauses, including quoting, sorting, deduplication, and wrapping - all within seconds.

Supporting IT-Tools is our way of encouraging small, focused utilities that solve real problems efficiently and respect users’ privacy.

quic-go

We are happy to support quic-go, a robust and well-maintained Go implementation of the QUIC and HTTP/3 protocols, created and maintained by Marten Seemann. quic-go provides the technical foundation for modern, low-latency, and resilient web communication.

This project is particularly relevant to us because quic-go is a core dependency of Caddy, which we already use in production and actively sponsor. By supporting quic-go directly, we contribute to the long-term sustainability of the protocol layer that enables HTTP/3 in our WMACCESS platform.

Continuation of open-source support

We will continue to actively support incredible open-source projects in the following years. We believe in the sustainability, growth, and innovative potential of open source, and will remain dedicated contributors to this invaluable ecosystem.

A call to action

The open-source community thrives on the collective contributions of individuals and organizations. As the digital world continues to evolve, let us ensure that the foundations remain strong and innovative through our support.

We call upon companies and individuals to join us in this mission. Whether it is contributing code, reporting bugs, spreading the word, or providing financial support, every action counts.

Let’s celebrate and uplift the spirits of those who dedicate themselves to open source. Together, we can ensure that this remarkable community continues to flourish, innovate, and inspire generations to come.

Thank you for being a part of this journey! 🚀
