Merge caused a mess, how can I clean it up?

I chose to 'merge' tracks into an existing album on an import (with 'move' option) and now the database shows entries with files that are outside my library.

I have two questions:

1. What's the best strategy for importing 'missing' tracks from an album into my library and moving them to the library location
2. How can I 'clean up' my library database removing entries whos files simply don't exist?

beet update will remove entries of missing files.

I ran beet update -p to preview the change and it looked like it was going to undo a bunch of 'fixes' from beet mbsync (genre, etc...)
