My WSL installation progress is always stuck at 0%. Why???

I had the same issue when WSL install was stuck at 0%. What finally worked for me was:

1. Make sure the required features are enabled:

dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /all /norestart
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux /all /norestart
bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype Auto

Reboot after this step.

2. Update and reinstall WSL from an elevated PowerShell:

wsl --update
wsl --install -d Ubuntu

3. If the Microsoft Store download is stuck at 0%, try:

• Opening Store → Library → Downloads & updates, then Pause and Resume.
• Run:

wsreset.exe

4. If DISM hangs at 0% or fails, repair the component store:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow

5. If a previous install broke, you can remove and reinstall the distro:

wsl --list
wsl --unregister <YourDistroName>
wsl --install -d Ubuntu

After this, running wsl --status should show version and the latest kernel.
