I suppose you uninstalled Realtek driver, getting temporarily the High Definition Audio one.
Regarding power settings, did you find the advanced panel with disk/USB/graphic/CPU options? Is there a PCI Express section? |

Can you report exact ultrabook and sound card models? |

Hello, I turned on signal enhancements and looked at how Narrator behaves. Surprisingly, Narrator's responsiveness was as it should be. I even looked at the responsiveness of Windows sounds, they were also fast. For some reason, NVDA is slow. Could the fact that NVDA is 32 bit have an effect? |

I had requested a feature on this topic. Since that topic was accidentally deleted while trying to turn it into a discussion, I'm reopening the topic here and want to summarize what happened.
I recently acquired an ultrabook computer.
Since this computer focuses on low power consumption, the response of the sound card is very slow. This causes a delay of up to 1 second in the response of NVDA and probably other screen readers.
In fact, this is not a feature of the sound card, but a feature of the sound card driver.
Because when I switch to the High Definition Audio driver, the problem is completely gone. But this is not a solution, because Windows update interferes and reloads the Realtek driver.
The solution I found myself was to uncheck the Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device and Enable audio enhancements for both headphones and speakers. This largely solves the problem, but it is not a 100% solution either. Also, unchecking the second of these options causes poor sound quality.
Some friends have suggested something here, but it didn't work. I was told to increase the computer's processor performance, but there was nothing but balanced in the power options. Even if there was, there were side effects. I was told to check if my sound card driver had a power saving option in the power options or if my computer was power saving, but my driver didn't have one, and my computer wasn't in power saving mode.
I was advised to use a third party application, Silenxio, but I can't say that it helped much. In fact, I'm not sure if it even installed on my computer, since I can't understand much of its installation options. There was a suggestion of a bat file, which I was able to apply, but that didn't fix my problem either. Also, NVDA's keep sound card awake feature and white noise feature didn't fix my problem either.
