GitHub Copilot is a fantastic tool for accessibility! Code editing assistance: Reduce the need for typing by letting Copilot autocomplete based on context. Understanding legacy code: Copilot can explain what functions or blocks do, making onboarding easier. Speech-to-code support: When paired with speech recognition tools, Copilot helps voice-based coding. Generating documentation: Copilot helps auto-generate docstrings and README files, reducing manual work. Assistive learning: New devs can learn how code works by asking Copilot to write or fix examples. These features especially support developers with mobility, cognitive, or visual impairments by automating repetitive tasks and simplifying complex codebases. |

A popular mantra within the disability community is, “Nothing about us without us.” This exemplifies the belief that people with disabilities must actively participate in the decisions that impact their lives. To celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day on May 15th, we're going beyond including individuals with lived experience in decision-making. They’ll be our pilots for this week as all five videos are by users with lived experience.
