I've been using codespaces for a while now, but I could only use it about 2-3 times a month before the budget stops me from using it, please extend its time because the budget is normally too short.

Yeah, that’s a common issue for a lot of users — the free Codespaces budget can feel pretty limited, especially if you’re working on bigger projects or testing multiple environments.

Currently, GitHub provides a fixed monthly quota (120 core hours + 15 GB of storage) for free personal accounts and students with GitHub Education. Once that limit is used up, Codespaces automatically pauses to prevent extra charges.

you can try these things:

1. Use smaller machines — for example, switching from 4-core to 2-core saves a lot of hours.
2. Stop codespaces manually when you’re done instead of just closing the tab — that prevents idle time from eating your quota.
3. If you’re a verified student, make sure your account is linked to GitHub Global Campus, since students get extra free usage credits sometimes.
4. You can also open a feature request in the Codespaces feedback repo asking GitHub to review or expand the free limit for education or hobby projects — they do check community feedback when updating budgets.
