Comment a line with <ctrl>+<shift>+C

Hi,
when i try to comment a line with the shortcut ++C in positron, it open a new windows terminal. Is there any explaination on this or someone has a solution ?

Do you have the RStudio keymapping enabled? If not, the default is indeed to open a new terminal.

I have the RStudio keymap enabled, and that supersedes the default one, and therefore commenting a line does work. If you don't want the entire RStudio keymap, then you would have change the keyboard shortcut.

Would be nice to have a solution to this --- i.e., a default shortcut key for commenting code --- which does not require enabling the RStudio keymap. That is, it would be nice that the most important/used shortcut keys are, by default, enabled for beginner students who don't know how to change/create shortcut keys.

Why would you expect that there isn't a keyboard shortcut for commenting code in an IDE for code? Being based on the open fork of VSCode, the defaults are VSCode shortcuts. If you don't already use VSCode, and don't want to use the RStudio mapping (which was a nice decision by Posit devs, by the way), then you have to learn the shortcuts that already exist.

<Ctrl> + / is the default keyboard shortcut for commenting lines of code, which you can discover if you bring up the keyboard shortcuts menu. And it works regardless of the status of the RStudio mapping.

Because I am, sadly, naive and inexperienced! But thanks for pointing that out! This, obviously, solves my problem.

Hey @seewe! Yes, it's true that the default shortcut for commenting a line is <ctrl> + /, and that you can enable the RStudio keymap to change the shortcuts to something that's more like what you're used to. Please let us know if you still see anything that's different from what you expected!

Hi, I do have the RStudio keyboard shortcuts enabled and am using Positron Version Positron-2025.05.0-103 on Windows. Unfortunately, instead of commenting/uncomment a line Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+C opens the Windows Terminal window. Would be glad if we get this working again!

Hey @xx02al , I saw that you opened #7503 for this, thanks! Just to connect the dots for anyone looking here first, this bug will be fixed in the next release.
