Please support drmcnelson's open source work making doing science more open and more affordable.
Talent is found everywhere. But doing science and the kind of science you get to do, increasingly depends on where you are and your access to funding to buy instruments and build facilities. This project aims to make doing science more open and more accessible. Designing amazing experiments with sophisticated instruments should depend only on your effort and creativity.
We are a small team (2) of instrumentation physicists with long careers designing instruments for national laboratories, academic laboratories, deep space missions, undersea missions and so forth. In this effort we design instrumentation circuits and sensors using open source tools, many of which we have used in our own research, and we post them to github along with the software and source codes to operate them.
Most scientists can build these circuits or have them built for very little money, either by hand or by simply sending the files to a pcb assembly service such as ALLPCB or PCBWay, etc., or you can get a board from us with a donation. The cost is often a small fraction of the price of an equivalent commercial instrument.
Our project is just getting started. But already, our designs are gaining attention, they have been used by researchers around the world, and some are even used in course work at universities.
Please do support our work. We hope to make the world and the world of science a little better.
