Add sorting order to Extensions in Theia-IDE

As discussed in [1], would it be possible to add a sorting order to the Extensions tab in the Theia-IDE? Specifically it would be useful to sort by most downloads.

Feature Description:

When installing a vsx extension I wish to install the one which matches my search but also has the highest installation count. To do this I would like to sort the list of proposed/searched for extensions by the download count.

I was looking if I can implement this but I've stumbled a little bit. I don't understand the search results openvsx returns. For a query like this https://open-vsx.org/api/-/search?orderBy=downloadCount&sortOrder=desc&query=lens I get results like this:

1. "vsix-lens" - downloadCount 1288
2. "errorlens" - downloadCount 306985
3. "vscode-versionlens" - downloadCount 56205
4. "hoverlens" - downloadCount 1362

@vince-fugnitto I see you implemented the sorting in [1]. What I am doing wrong or misunderstanding?

@AleksanderBobinski I remember that it used to work properly (it continues to work for our downstream fork of openvsx) but something must have regressed. Please open an issue in https://github.com/eclipse/openvsx with your findings.
