Our paper Mesa 3: Agent-based modeling with Python in 2025 has been published in the Journal of Open Source Software (JOSS)! This PR updates our citation information to reflect this exciting milestone.

Changes

  • Replace old BibTeX citation with modern Citation File Format (CFF)
  • Add JOSS DOI badge to README and documentation DOI
  • Update citation instructions in README and docs
  • Include all authors with their ORCID identifiers

Our official peer-reviewed publication gives Mesa users a new academic reference to cite in their work, which will help increase visibility and recognition for our project in the scientific community.

- Replace the BibTeX citation with a Citation File Format (CFF) that references
our new paper in the Journal of Open Source Software.
- Update README and docs to display the JOSS DOI badge and provide proper citation instructions for "Mesa 3: Agent-based modeling with Python in 2025".
