I suggest that the URL not be echoed to the stderr file then, since many people on this list attach (or quote from) their stderr file.   I’m not used to the username part of a URL being treated as a password.  I thought a password was colon-separated from the username (username:password@host) and ill-advised (and, in fact, refused by some applications).
