utmctl does not work unless the path is exactly /Applications/UTM.app/Contents/MacOS/utmctl (IOW: Can only use utmctl for the main install of UTM)

Is it just me or has utmctl stopped working? It reports all VMs as "stopped", even if they are running:

I have a script that automatically suspends the Fedora VM after some inactivity, but "utmctl suspend" doesn't work after upgrading to 4.6.4.

The reason it didn't work was that the path was /Applications/UTM\ 3.app/Contents/MacOS/utmctl instead of /Applications/UTM.app/Contents/MacOS/utmctl.

So not a very big bug, but I guess still a bug. I'm updating the ticket title.

The actual problem is the last part of the path as I noticed here:

That seems like a reasonable assumption as they are sharing the app as that name. Can I ask why you wouldn't just have one in system library applications and another under user applications if you needed two? Or why sub-folders are inappropriate?

Thanks for investigating. I already have workarounds though. But this is the way your programs are organized by default by the operating system, i.e. macOS automatically renames "UTM.app" to "UTM x.app" when you choose not to overwrite an existing installation, so the problem is very likely to pop up again for new users in the future.

Is your workaround to rename the old version so you can utmctl on the latest at all times?

Are you proposing a flag to utmctl, or an environment variable? How would you propose it is fixed?

@osy It's possibly I don't understand #6628, but isn't this one different? The thing I'm doing here is:

1. Start /Applications/UTM\ 3.app/Contents/MacOS/UTM
2. Run /Applications/UTM\ 3.app/Contents/MacOS/utcmtl

But utmctl doesn't work, even though it's placed in the same directory as the UTM I am currently running. Can't the utmctl command just use argv[0] to find the path of the current running UTM in this case? (If it's actually the same issue, just reply "it's the same issue", and then I'll study #6628 better, no need to explain. :))
